'Supporting your young person to find work' (Workshop for Parents)

About: This course is designed for parents/carers of young adults with an ASC, to help them understand what they can - and can't - do to help their young person to prepare for the world of work, and how best to support them to find employment as they leave education. The workshop aims to give parents practical advice and ideas, and to signpost them to potential areas of further support and funding. Topic covered include:

  • Routes into work and higher education
  • Looking for work; the role that parents/carers can (and can't) play
  • Declaring an ASC diagnosis to an employer (when and how)
  • Reasonable Adjustments in the workplace
  • Available support

The workshop is for 10-15 people, snacks and cold drinks will be provided

AS Mentoring reserves the right to cancel this workshop should it not meet minimum booking numbers

Date & time: Monday 16th October, 10am-14:30pm.

Location: City Business Library, Aldermanbury, London, EC2V 7HH. (The workshop will take place in the Walbrook room)

Cost: £40 + VAT/person (£48/person total)

Payment: We will be taking credit or debit card payments on the day. (please note we will not be accepting cash or cheque)

'Managing anxiety in the workplace' (Workshop for adults with ASC)

About: This workshop is for adults with an Autism Spectrum Condition, including Asperger syndrome (a formal diagnosis is not required), who are either in work, or who are preparing to enter into employment. Through a combination of theory, practical activities and discussion we will be exploring the following:

  • How to recognise you are feeling anxious
  • What may be causing your anxiety
  • Short term strategies to manage your anxiety
  • Long term strategies to reduce your anxiety
  • Available support and resources

The workshop is for 6-10 people, snacks and cold drinks will be provided

'Going to University' (Pilot Workshop for Parents)

About: This is a pilot course offering information for parents on how to support their son or daughter with an ASC into higher education. The workshop will cover what support your young person can expect to receive at University and what to do to ensure they get the right support in place. We'll also be looking at the expectations of the University, and how to help prepare your young person for the change. The workshop will be delivered by two of our consultants who have supported students in Higher Educational settings across London and the South East for a number of years.

This course is funded by the National Autistic Society Surrey Branch for it's members and delivered by AS Mentoring.
