Tell us about your experience, lived and/or working?

I have been involved in the field of autism as an advocate, educator and a practitioner for over 20 years. Working in a professional capacity, but also through my volunteering work, I have developed different services, helped shape and improve autism support practice and hopefully made a difference too. In my practice it has been important to me to raise awareness of the amazing potential as well as the support needed for neurodivergent people to achieve their goals and fulfilment in life.

What do you value most about your work?

It excites me to develop new conversations and relationships with a variety of people. it is a privilege and inspiration to be a guide and support people to achieve what is important for them. It is important to me that clients are supported in a way that helps them find their authentic voice and a way of being that is comfortable for them.

What are your areas of interest or expertise?

Interplay between mental health and autism and the effect environmental adjustments can have on behaviour and wellbeing. The role that sleep, nutrition and physical activity play. Improving access and engagement with marginalised communities, as well as improving outcomes for all autistic and neurodivergent people whatever their socio-economic or cultural background.

When you’re not working, how do you relax, have fun etc?

I enjoy reading and cooking, discovering new places, seeking interesting art, films, exploring countryside. I get far too excited about old toys and games, unusual finds and knick-knacks. I hope one day my crafting will seriously take off. I like taking my dog for a walk, though he would agree I should be doing it more often.
